Today, Taylor swift released an extended edition of her hit album titled Fearless Platinum, I’m sure all of you well know this country pop artist has been nominated for and won multiple awards for her music, like and has been nominated for over 10 AMA’s just this year! She is, despite the theme of one of the songs off the EP, a Superstar.
One of the tracks off of this EP is a piano version of her “Forever and Always”, a mid-breakup song that has an… interesting past behind it but a great song nevertheless. This slowed-down rendition just makes a fantastic song sound even better.
Her cover of Luna Halo’s “Untouchable” is amazing. She defiantly makes the song her own; emphasizing certain verses and lines to give listeners a new view, taking it from a song about distance and difference between two people to one about idolization and yearning. The Halo version is much rougher than Taylor’s soft and slowed down take on it. It’s nice; I was hoping Taylor would record this cover in the studio when I heard a video of her covering it live.
It’s been said that Taylor can’t even be considered a country artist anymore, but is not solely a “pop princess”. “Jump Then Fall” and “The Other Side of the Door” are both great examples of Taylor’s country flair. Just listening to the first 30 seconds of it, with no idea who the artist is, you would assume it’s largely country with some modern pop in it—which is what both these songs are.
“Come in with the Rain” was off of Taylors self-titled debut album, and truthfully I can’t tell if she rerecorded it or not. I think she may have, for in the newest version she sounds a bit older. So I am going to say she did, and just roll with that ;] I really like this song, its different from the others in that it doesn’t blatantly tell what the idea of the song is. It can be taken in different ways and for different situations, so it’s a nice break from the breakup/makeup, I-want-you-badly songs (not hating on those songs, phst I love them! That’s like all teenagers think about. Not really but most of it is).
Superstar is defiantly the most relatable song on this album; I’ve been hearing and seeing a particular quotation from the song “I'm no one special/just another wide-eyed girl/Who's desperately in love with you/Give me a photograph to hang on my wall, superstar”. It’s crazy: even a couple days before the extended version came out, people all over were going crazy for this song in particular. It’s because EVERYONE can relate to this; everyone has that person that they feel is their “superstar” that they feel they don’t even measure up to because they are that special. The song nicely puts this feeling into words and you feel like Taylor must have been reading your mind when she wrote this, because it’s so particular to feelings you have. Love it times a million.
All of these songs touch me, and I’m sure you if you listen to them, in such a personal way. This is this reason that makes Taylor such a popular artist: her songs are amazingly relatable, whether you are a guy or girl. Everyone has one of those days where you just need to blast a T-Swift song and sing along to it because it captures exactly what you’re feeling at that moment so perfectly. Ahh, it’s great, she’s great, love this album.
