"Longview" is Green Day's first single, off of their first major label album Dookie. "Longview" broke Green Day into the mainstream, and set off a very long and successful career. The lyrics are about boredom, masturbation, and wasting away the time. It's long been known that bassist Mike Dirnt came up with the now famous opening bass riff while on an acid trip.
