Vybez Kartel

Adijah Palmer, mostly known as Vybez Kartel, is a famous Jamaican dancehall DJ.  During his youth, he was inspired by Will Smitih, Charlie Chaplin, Papa San, and KRA-1.  He would write down their lyrics, remember them, and then perform the songs to his friends when he was only 10 years old.  At 11, Vybez decided to become a DJ and started writing his own lyrics.  In 1993, he recorded his first single, Love Fat Woman.  At that time he recorded the song under the name Adi Banton, after one of his idols, Buju Banton.

In 1996, he and two friends, Mr. Lee and Escobar, decided to form a group and named it Vibes Cacrtel.  This decision was made after he watched about Pablo Escobar and his cartel.  Obviously, the group broke up, thus leaving Vybez alone and changing Vibes Cartel to Vybez Kartel.  Despite the break up, his career is very successful, and he won an award at the Caribbean Urban Music Awards (CUMA) in 2008, and won three awards at the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards (EME) in 2009 for his hit song, Ramping Shop featuring Spice.
