When I watched Battle of the Year(BOTY) in 2008, the crew that stood out the most to me was Extreme Crew. This Korean bboy crew really nailed it's performance and in my opinion, had the best choreography in the whole tournament. I was really disappointed that they didn't even make it into the semifinals.
I later found out that the judges evaluate the crews on two main elements, artistry and technicality. Each of those elements have their own criteria. In artistry, it's choreography, music, theme, synchronicity, etc. In technicality, it's power moves, uprock, toprock, footwork, etc. Extreme Crew actually did lack in toprock, and footwork, but it was so hard notice if you was a viewer and not a judge because their showcase was really that amazing. Maybe BOTY should change the way they grade the bboy crews? I know it would take way too much time to do, but it would be great if they let the fans vote on the crews they liked best.
Well if you want to see probably one of the most epic performances ever, watch the video of Extreme Crew in BOTY 2008 below. Then, watch the video of T.I.P., which was another bboy crew that made it into the finals.
Who do think YOU deserved to be in the finals more...Extreme Crew, or T.I.P.?
And What do YOU think of the grading system? Should BOTY change it, or is it fine the way it is?
