A little more than two weeks after their humiliating loss to Mexico in the Gold Cup at our own Giants Stadium, the US team has failed once again to prove itself in the most widely played sport in the world. After giving up a 2-0 lead during the Confederations Cup against Soccer powerhouse, Brazil, and losing again in the Gold Cup against Mexico, the US team has been unable to gain a win since their unexpected streak during the Confederation Cup. Their latest upset, at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City came with a 2-1 loss against Mexico who the US has never beat at their home stadium. After their surprising run at the Confederation Cup, all eyes were on the US to play like never before, but each time a critical game arises, the men on the team fail to work together to pull through with a victory. Although they lost, the US is by no means out of the running for the World Cup, as another qualifying match against El Salvador will be played on September 5th. In hopes of bringing popularity to the sport here in the United States, a win for the US is a must as they try to gain entry into the World Cup next year in South Africa.
