Alexei Kovalev is one of the NHL's longest standing and more durable players. He's a pillar of integrity and skill that has spent nearly 20 years in the hockey community. He was signed in 1991 by the Rangers in the first round as the 15th pick, becoming the first Russian to be picked in the first round ever. He was an important part of the 1994 Ranger's Stanley Cup win and has continued to play in the league to this today, being signed for the 2009-2010 season with the Ottawa Senators. He's a player of tremendous skill, who's been able to maintain for over a decade!
Kovalev was a very entertaining player throughout his career and earned himself the nickname AK-27, which pays homage to his initials, his number and his Russian heritage. He was so popular that Warrior made a special AK-27 line of sticks. The sticks became very popular amongst other NHL players
Kovalev has contributed a lot to the NHL and it's hard to nail down one good moment of his because he has so many. He always played hard and has kept himself in good physical condition for close to 20 years. He's one of the few true veterans in the NHL. His career has been a steady stream of success with no major egoistical outburst that we see among modern players.
