As an inexperienced Oliver Perez wavered on the mound, the NL favorite New York Mets hopes hinged on a decisive game 7 of the 2006 NLCS with the St. Louis Cardinals. With a man on first and Scott Rolen at the plate, Perez, acquired as a throw-in in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for Xavier Nady, delivered a pitch that Scott Rolen sent deep into left field. Endy Chavez raced back and leaped into the New York sky, reaching back and snow coning the ball back into the field of play. Chavez proceeded to throw out the runner at first and keep the Mets’ hopes alive, preserving a 1-1 tie.
