Girls of Riyadh, a novel written by Rajaa Alsanea, was orginally released in Arabic in 2005 and banned in Saudi Arabia due its controversial content.
The novel is written in the form of emails that recount the story of four young women living in the conservative society of Saudi Arabia. The girls look for relationships and love but are held back by the restrictions of a tight-knit society.
The book has been referred to as a "Saudi-style Sex and The City".
As of 2008, English-translated copies have been available in Saudi Arabia and the novel has become a best-seller across the Middle East.
