Concert Controversy in Cuba

User Rating: / 0
PoorBest

Platinum-selling Colombian popstar Juanes has planned a concert in Cuba that features several of Latin America's biggest stars. Cuba has been living in political and social isolation for the last 40something years and Juanes hopes to break that isolation with his concert. Several support Juanes' peaceful motives for the concert yet others have severely criticized them. Critics claim that Juanes has sided with Castro's regime. Some of the performers for the concert (Silvio Rodriguez and Amaury Perez) are pro-Revolutionary Cuban artists and have strong political opinions. Juanes has received death threats through his Twitter account and his Key Biscayne home has been swarmed with paparazzi and television crew. I personally find the concert as a beneficial to Cuba and its worldwide relations because Juanes planned a similar concert last summer along the Colombian and Venezuelan border. There was much hostility between Hugo Chavez's regime and Colombia's socialist government and since the concert, tension have eased.
