Darker Than Black, an extremely popular Japanese anime aired in 2007, begins by explaining how an unknown alien territory descends in Tokyo, altering the landscape and wreaking chaos among the inhabitants. Soon individuals known as "contractors" appear with supernatural abilities, seemingly devoid of any human emotion. The main protagonist who is also an elite contractor, Hei, works with elusive organization known as 'the syndicate' on various spy/assassin missions.
