On August 23, 2009, Miss Venezuela, Stefania Fernandez, was chosen as Miss Universe 2009.

The event was held live at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The 18 year old winner competed with women from over 80 other countries in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and personality interview.

Miss Universe 2008, also Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, was present to crown her successor.
